Aerodynamic Instability of Circular Slender Structures Due to Bistable Flow Activity

چکیده
Slender structures with circular cylindrical cross-sections are very common in civil engineering, industrial equipment and bridge engineering. Such long cylinders subjected to wind columns, piles, cables, chimney, pylons others. On an instability called dry galloping has been recently theorized be linked unpredictable jump state occurring once the boundary layers of cylinder changes from laminar turbulent. With a non-stationary character, force generated at critical flow regime is named bi-stable activity. In this work, birth activity around made high-density polyethylene studied experimentally tunnel. The pressure pattern linearly decomposed geometric modes governing as function circularity defect created. results show that energy load observed depends strongly on defect. Furthermore, inclination angle 60° confers significant increase mode when unsteady asymmetric reattachment event occurs. paper also highlights variability mean drag coefficient macroscopic

Energy Harvesting from Axial Flow Induced Instabilities in Slender Structures
In this work we examine the prospects for harvesting energy from flutter instabilities of a slender, flexible cylinder in an axial flow stream. We couple the fluid-solid model and include energy harvesting as curvature based damping. In the first instance we model the reduced order system comprising of an articulated rigid cylinder pair with discrete springs and dampers and demonstrate the scop...
متن کاملThe Pattern of Ground Deformations due to Circular Tunneling
This paper presents the results of a recent study about the following aspects relevant to tunneling in soft grounds:e) The domain of deformations due to tunneling in soft ground can be specified within a boundary of a parabolic shape. This boundary is defined by a parabolic formula as a function of a central angle which depends on the soil type i.e., either cohesive or cohesionless. This para...

متن کاملNoise-sustained structures due to convective instability in finite domains
In large aspect ratio systems with broken reflection symmetry the onset of instability is closely related to the threshold for absolute instability in the corresponding unbounded system. The upstream boundary (with respect to the group velocity) plays a crucial part in fixing the frequency of the nonlinear wavetrain that results, and hence its stability properties. In contrast in the convective...
متن کاملexperimental and numerical investigation of aerodynamic characteristics of a circular cylinder in an axial flow
in this study, aerodynamic characteristics of a circular cylinder in an axial flow have been investigated numerically and experimentally. the model has been considered as a cylinder with truncated nose and fineness ratio of 3 (length to diameter ratio of 3). the investigation involves a series of wind tunnel measurements, flow visualization, and numerical simulation. we used different mach numb...
